Apple laughed hard at Intel when they launched their Apple Silicon, and now it looks like the upgrade is gonna put all the other competition to dust!
There is some new info about the new Apple M1X chips, all thanks to some benchmark leaks, and oh boy, it is absolutely bonkers! The chip now features 12 cores! Yep, you read that right, that’s 4 more cores as compared to the last gen. Considering what those 8 cores were able to achieve, this is going to take it to a whole new level!
The setup consists of 8 ‘Firestorm’ performance cores, with 4 efficiency ‘Ice Storm’ cores. And the GPU side isn’t anything less astonishing either! The chip features a 16-core GPU with 256 execution units, and it can almost double the current GPU performance! ( The current M1 chip features ‘only’ 8 cores and 128 EUs )
The Apple M1X will also feature an increased TDP of 35W-45W, according to the listing, and support for up to 32GB of LPDDR4X memory and PCIe 4.0 storage. Interestingly enough, the chip will still be clocked at the good old 3.2Ghz. Although, that increased TDP might mean that the battery-backup is going to go down the drain.
If the rumors’ are to believed, Apple is working on an even more beefed up GPU chips with 16 and 32 cores! Nvidia and AMD, your dedicated graphics cards might be in a bit of a trouble!
